Utopia and other AI video tools: when each one suits you

No tool does everything. This page sums up what each one does, as its own website presents it, and the kind of work it fits best, including when that isn't Utopia.

Google FlowGoogle's tool for making shots and scenes with its video (Veo) and image models, and putting them together.Making and trying out shots with Veo if you already use Google's AI plans.

SynthesiaVideos with avatars that present a text to camera, in many languages, widely used for company training.A presenter who reads a script, and texts that change often.
HeyGenTalking avatars, also with your own face and voice, and video translation with lip sync.A presenter with your own image, and translating videos you have already recorded.

When another tool suits you better

  • You only need a presenter reading a text: Synthesia or HeyGen are more direct.
  • You want to transform or retouch footage you have already filmed: Runway is made for that.
  • You only want to try single shots with Veo and already pay for a Google AI plan: Google Flow.

When Utopia suits you

  • The piece has a story, several characters and an edit, and faces, clothes and voices can't change between shots.
  • You need to deliver it in SCORM for an e-learning platform, or in several versions and languages.
  • The story goes on in Unreal Engine or Unity, or on an LED wall.
  • You work in Spanish or Catalan, with the interface in your language and invoices from a Spanish company with VAT.

Frequently asked questions

Does Utopia use the same models as Google Flow?
For video it uses Veo 3.1, the Google model Flow also uses, plus Gemini and Nano Banana for the script and the images. With an add-on you can also use other companies' models (Kling, Wan, Seedance or MiniMax). The difference is what surrounds them: the script, the cast, the storyboard, the edit and the delivery.
Is it cheaper than a production company?
For the pieces AI already does well (social adverts, corporate videos, dramatised training) the cost drops a lot and the timeline goes from weeks to days, counting one person who directs and reviews. For a shoot with known actors, an exact product or precise technical animation, a production company is still the choice.
Can I move to Utopia from another tool?
Yes: import your script and upload your characters' photos as references so they keep their faces in every shot.
